Research Title: The relationship between exercise, intestinal microbiota and fatigue in endurance athletes.
Guy is a PhD student in the School of Public Health, Tel Aviv University, a sports nutritionist, and exercise physiologist. In his research he investigates the relationship between exercise, intestinal microbiota and fatigue in endurance athletes.
Exercise is a significant factor known to affect the gut microbial population. Gut microbiota may have a key role in controlling the oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in athletes, as well as improving metabolism and energy expenditure during intense exercise. To date, the gut microbiota composition has not been fully investigated in endurance athletes nor among female and male athletes and has not been fully investigated with exercise performance, inflammatory responses and fatigue. His study aims to determine the gut microbiota composition in endurance runners and cyclists and its relation to performance and fatigue, including testing differences between male and female athletes.
