Research Title: Thermographic changes following a short-term high intensity exercise..
Avi Raz had his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Technion, Haifa in 1972. Between 1972 and 2012, Avi served in the Israeli air force. Currently, he is pursuing his master's degree in the School of Public Health.
Short-term, high-intensity exercise represents anaerobic type of exercise that may have a significant impact on the cardiovascular system. In his study, he performed the 30 seconds Wingate Anaerobic Test while using a handheld miniature thermal infrared (IR) photography device attached to a cellular phone. Thermal images were acquired before, immediately after, and during a 15 minute recovery period from the exercising legs, chest, and forehead.
Mixed groups of 12 female and 12 male athletes showed significant differences between the test results including in the thermal images acquired. Thermal distribution (entropy) was calculated and showed a significant reduction post-exercise with a gradual return to baseline values during the recovery period.
