Research Title: The relationship between exercise, high levels of CO2 and fatigue in soldiers.

Anna is an aviation and navy physiologist , she is a PhD student in the School of Public Health, Tel Aviv University. In her research she investigates the relationship between exercise, high levels of CO2 and fatigue in soldiers.

The concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the Earth's atmosphere is around 0.03% and is normally metabolized by cellular respiration activity in humans. But at concentrations as high as 1%, it may already cause some feeling of fatigue and a cognitive decline.

In addition, the submarine crew is functioning around the clock and is exposed to a partial and continuous sleep restriction, which has negative effects on cognition.

The study will examine the cognitive effects of different exposure conditions (sleep restriction and hypercapnia) separately and together and whether they can be minimized or prevented by a one-time exercise preconditioning.
